“Y’know how I never should be allowed to be left alone with anyone Kree because it always ends in a complete and utter disaster? Guys take everything too serious.”
Don’t you even dare to look that innocent, Richard. There are times where neither of them can go any place at all without getting into trouble.
Well, he gets into trouble to get people out of trouble, like you Pete. Well, most some of the time anyway… Trouble seems to be something that follows them wherever they go, and they, trouble. Probably the reason why they really make a good pair.
But he can agree with the Kree thing, especially when it came to certain individuals of the species, speaking of —
“Hey, remember that very short time when it was just us and not being responsible for any other people and where we’d just get from one mess into another?”
“Basically, I need you to bail me out of shit, Richie.”
“What’d you do now?”
Trust him to leave Peter alone for a day. He’d managed to get a lot done in that timeframe, but Richard supposes Peter would be no different; just that the other would be more likely to get himselfinto trouble, (not that he didn’t too sometimes).
But the faint smile playing on his lips speaks a different language. It’s nice indeed — he barely remembers the last time they just got to sit down and joke without danger of some sort or another already hanging in front of them already again.
He missed that. He also missed quite a few other things regarding Richard, but he’s not saying any of that out loud now. Rich probably knows either way; if anyone can read him, it’s this man.
“… Peter… fever?”
There’s a moment where he has a confused face on, before he’s grinning bright, like he’s made the best joke (or pun) in the world. He’ll probably never live this one down, but Richard doesn’t have it in him to care. Years (a hope) from now, they can look back and laugh at this, among countless other things, and more (a plea) that have yet to be experienced.
“And just what is that supposed to tell me? You wanna meet my dad? Because I don’t.“
“Well… Wait, your dad?”
And now he’s curious. This wasn’t a topic that had been discussed before, not even in the first war they’ve been in together, though he had talked about his family, there’s no recollection of Pete’s and there’s something in either (or both) Peter’s words and expression that gives him cause for concern.
Not that he’s any different. They’ve done that a lot, back in the day — way less nowadays. Could ask what happened to them, but they know that far well, don’t they?
“You’re included in that category as well. Both the stars and being adorable.”
His eyes close briefly as he beams at the other, enjoying their time of peace together (it tends not to last long so he’ll take and cherish every single moment).
He actually manages to keep a straight face until after the sentence’s finished before he bursts out laughing, hand outstretched to still, against better judgement, twirl one of the other’s locks.
”So preeeeettieh.“
“Damnit Pete.”
Richard pushes Peter’s hand away, even as his head unknowingly tilts towards it. And the other’s laugh is infectious, not that he wouldn’t have laughed on his own anyway, but happiness between them is thus multiplied by one simple act.
