The Sun Came Crashing In || Richard (rchardriders) & Peter (shootingstarlord)

shootingstarlord:

“Yeah, you know how it is. Some ladies don’t get the concept of a one night stand,” he joked, avoding the subject of being chased. His dad was not something he wanted to talk about right now. Not when he was happy and Richard was back. Did Rich even know about the whole prince deal? He couldn’t remember if it had ever come up in conversation between them.

The way Richard said ‘us’ made him feel alarmingly weak in the knees. Flarking hell, he had it bad if teenage romance novel lines were starting to make sense. Shoving that thought to the back of his mind he looked back up at Richard, “You’re from Long Island, you appear wholesome at first but pack a hidden punch. D’ast right, you’re Long Island Iced Tea.”

Not to mention both Richard and alcohol made Peter feel dizzy, flushed, and stupid.

Fishing up the old coordinates and updating them with new information he almost didn’t look up in time to see Richard touch his lips with his fingers. Which resulted in him nearly having a very loud, very vocal reaction to the sight only prevented by the fact that he quickly bit down on his tongue. God damn, that was unfair. The universe was conspiring against him.

When he was recovered enough to talk again he clicked his tongue, “I still have the old calculations, so we should be able to get there without Worldmind checking our math. Unless you don’t trust my navigational mathematics skill?”

Arching an eyebrow at Richard, he reluctantly glanced away to check his math one more time in case he made a mistake. Wouldn’t be much of a reunion if they accidentally flattened themselves on an asteroid on their way to the old watering hole.

Having Richard by his side again felt good. It felt right. They had worked so well together during the war. Closing his eyes, he remembered how it felt. They had been fighting a losing battle, but they had fought it like a well oiled machine. Like they were two parts that were meant to fit together. Richard trusting Peter’s judgement and knowledge, and letting himself trust in Richard’s strength and leadership. They hadn’t even known each other, but followed each other guns raised into hell. You know what they said about bonds forged in fire.

And then he’d gone and fallen in love while Richard had yelled at the Kree merchant lords. He smiled faintly at the memory. It had been stupid, but dear god, it had also been hot as hell. The war kept him too busy to get that worked up around Richard, but now there was no Annihilation wave, no Phalanx, no— okay there were still rips in the fabric of the universe, and Thanos. Those problems were small potatoes in the scheme of things.

“Ha, ha.” Richard let that slide (again), he’d been letting a lot of it slide, he’ll probably regret it later, but he didn’t want to stress Peter out right now. ‘Sides there was more important things to do, and he hoped that if there was indeed someone chasing Peter, they wouldn’t bump into them. Either way, between the two of them, he’s sure that they manage to take care of any hostile pursuers.

It wasn’t the first time, and it certainly wouldn’t be the last. And if they were smart enough, they would do well to stay of their way. He’d just got back and he didn’t want to have to deal with people that were chasing after his best friend. He wanted to get Worldmind, tell her he wasn’t dead, get back to Earth, see his family and friends, and possibly rebuild the Nova Corps, again.

“Wholesome, eh? That’s a nice compliment. If I didn’t know any better, I’d think you were hitting on me.” He joked, patting Peter’s shoulder twice. Suddenly feeling a strong sense homesickness, he sighed. He missed Long Island, he missed Home. He missed his family. Richard wanted to get back home and probably stay there for longer than a week this time. Well, at least Pete was here. Pete felt like home when he was in space and far far away from Earth. Pete felt like home when he was fighting battles side by side and having each other’s backs. Pete was — is and will always be home when there isn’t one, or even if there was one for that matter.

“Of course I trust you, that is seeing as the size and weight of your ship has already been taken into consideration.” He trusted — trusts Peter with his life, with more than his life. After all, Peter was smart and really good at math. He’d trusted Pete during the Annihilation wave, when they didn’t even know each other, when calling him Richie’ was a no, when they were back to back in dirt and space aliens, when Pete was his aide and advisor, when Pete was the only other Terran there. He’d trusted Pete in Phalanx invasion. He’d trusted Pete during the War of Kings. He’d trusted Pete during the trials of the Cancerverse and the Fault. He’d trusted Pete when they ran at Thanos, and sealed themselves in the Cancerverse. He’d trusted Pete every step of the way, and he would continue to do so till his dying breath and even, as fate would have it, after death.

Richard opened a stargate with the help of his suit as Peter steered the ship into it. “We’ll be there in a few minutes. Two probably.” According to the calculations on the screen at least. It wasn’t the first time his flight path was abruptly disrupted, but he figured his luck couldn’t be that bad, seeing as he’d managed to survive the incident with Thanos and managed to find Pete hours after the ordeal. That or that was his luck quota for the day, or month, and it would go downhill from here. Knowing his weird life it would be the latter.
