“Yeah they didn’t.” As Richard replied he hear his stomach grumble at the mention of food. He hadn’t realised that he was that hungry, being used to the lack of nutrition over the past few months. They’d probably fed him once or twice, if he was lucky, a day. Without the Nova Force to sustain him, he couldn’t exactly, maintain most of his strength. Of course, they hadn’t wanted him to look to shabby looking when they sold him.
He followed his friend to the kitchenette, and dug through the fridge for something that looked vaguely edible. “So, what have I missed? How’s my parents and brother? Where’s Worldmind?” Richard asked as he stuffed the food into his mouth, barely taking bites before swallowing it.
“Hey, slow down a bit Richie. The food’s not going to run away from you.” Peter frowned, concerned for his friend. It was bad to eat too much after not eating for a while. He didn’t want Richie to get sick.
“Well, the usual, universe in danger, get it saved. Thanos tried to invade Earth for a faux cosmic cube. Drax and I almost got sucked into a space-time fissure and I re-experienced my entire life compressed into one second. That was fun.” A bitter tone had creeped in and Peter cleared his throat. “Your parents are fine on Earth, so is Robbie.” He hadn’t gone to visit because he was a filthy coward and didn’t want to face the questions and the pain. (What could he have said to them? “I’m so sorry he died and I didn’t.”)
“After the Fault shut, the Nova Corps disbanded since… well… You kinda took all the Nova Force with you into the Cancerverse, didn’t you?” Peter shrugged. “I don’t know where they put Worldmind. It kind of shutdown after we ‘died’…” Peter also didn’t want to know where it was since it would have been concrete and immutable that Rich was dead, and he didn’t want to face it.
He nodded and did as Peter instructed, knowing that his advice was sound. Still, he didn’t completely stop eating, just slowed down a bit. Richard paused and grabbed a drink of water, before leaning against the now closed fridge.
Well, thank God Pete was okay. It wasn’t the first time that the world or galaxy was in danger and needed saving and it wouldn’t be the last. He was just glad that Peter managed to pull through all of it. It would have sucked if Richard had came out of the whole Cancerverse only to find out that Peter survived it too but died before they could have reunited.
He smiled at that, glad that Robbie was sensible enough to return to their parents, and not running around space trying to save it or fight crime. “Well let’s hope the Corps members went back to their lives then. Perhaps Worldmind’s still at Knowhere and we can start her up. After all, it’s the last place we left her at.”
“So where’s the rest of the guardians and Chris? And how did Namorita… Yeah…” Richard probably figured that his sacrifice hadn’t gone down well, and hoped that she was fine. “Anyway, a trip to Knowhere seems to be in order.”
