Just A Dream || Richard (rchardriders) & Peter (spacegallivanter)

spacegallivanter:

Peter didn’t know what was worse—coming face-to-face with Richard, his Richard, Richie Rich, the fast-talking rookie with a heart that’s bigger than his dorky bucket for a helmet; or the fact that the sound of his own name was unfamiliar to him.

His first instinct was to grab the man by his shoulders and give him a good shake. “Hey, Rich—” his voice was shaky, trembling from apprehension, “—this ain’t funny, okay?” But Peter knew in his heart that Richard was telling the truth. He’d strongarmed enough men to tell when they weren’t being honest, and when they were. Peter didn’t dare let go of him though, as if afraid that by releasing him he would lose him all over again.

But this time when he spoke again, he sounded surer, less agitated. “Richie, it’s me, Peter. Peter Quill.” He searched his eyes for some spark of recognition. Anything. “You know, Star-Lord? Don’t you recognize your old pal, Rider?”

He tensed up when the man grabbed him, and he couldn’t help but wince. “Dude. You’re scaring me.” Gage tried to shake himself free lightly but the blond had a strong grip. He moved to extract the other’s hand on his shoulder slowly, not wanting to aggravate him.

Peter? He tried to recall anything about this so called Star-Lord but, his memory was worse than patchwork. He couldn’t even remember his own name, how could he remember someone from his old life. He couldn’t even remember what he liked and who his parents were, or if he ever had parents. Gage shook his head at the man’s question, he didn’t know — couldn’t remember who the man standing before him was.

“I don’t know this Richie person okay. I… I might be him, but I don’t know. I can’t remember…” Gage didn’t want to tell the man everything, about how he’d been unconscious for two years, because he wasn’t sure if he could trust the man. He didn’t want to be taken advantage of, and revealing that he didn’t even remember his own name was already something that he had done, and something that he didn’t want to do.
