“Sure. You wouldn’t regret it.” Or at least he hoped she wouldn’t, after all not everyone liked Latte or Mint, or both, or either of them with the other. It wasn’t long before it was their turn in the queue and Richard ordered from the cashier, “Two Mint Lattes please.” He took his wallet out of his pocket and paid for their coffee.
He led Rebecca to an empty seat, the coffee might take a while and he didn’t want to crowd the collection point. “So what brings you here?”
Once they had ordered, Rebecca followed him to the table and actually winced at his his comment. “I, um…Been here awhile. A long time and I just can’t seem to leave. It’s almost as if something is holding me here.” She tried to leave but the sad part was is that her words were completely true. SHIELD wouldn’t let her leave so she was stuck.
“And you? Business or pleasure?”
Richard caught that wince, too used to reading people when he was in his space travels. Sure, he had Worldmind for things like heartbeat acceleration and pupil dilation and the like, but along the way he’d picked up the skill for his own. Granted, he didn’t know about Eve Necker being part of AIM but that was just because he was about to die. He figured he shouldn’t have asked but he didn’t pry, knowing went to back off. “Leisure, actually. I’m in between jobs now, and I’m taking a break of sorts, trying to catch a breather.”
