The Sun Came Crashing In || Richard (rchardriders) & Peter (shootingstarlord)

shootingstarlord:

It was worth everything he’d been through for the past 3 years just to hear that laugh again. Hearing it made Peter feel like all the guilt and the shame he’d held on to after crawling out of that hell of a universe without Richard was slipping away. It felt right.

Three years was a long time to carry that burden, and Peter had some theories about why they might have been spit out at different times. That was if Richard had even gotten out the same way he did.

Drawn into the hug by Richard and out of his thoughts about how he got here, Peter wrapped his arms tightly around his best friend in response. The how could wait, the why could wait, all that mattered is that he was. His best friend was back. God, that was a good thought. His best friend. Not his dead best friend, not his former best friend; just Richard Rider, the space-cop dork from Long Island that didn’t like to swear. He closed his eyes and gave Richard a squeeze, god, he was really here.

“Yeah, a statue. They put ‘Guardians of this Galaxy’ on the plaque. So welcome to the team I guess?” Peter said, covering the emotion in his voice with the teasing tone. There had never been a question over whether there was a place for Richard on the team. Since the first day there had been a place for him, one he might have taken if he hadn’t been so busy with the Novas.

Letting go of Richard really wasn’t something Peter wanted to do, so he did it reluctantly and left his hand on Richard’s arm, “We should probably go back to the ship and talk there, a lot has happened in 3 years.”

He returned the squeeze, wondering how much was too much. Richard doubted that there was any boundaries that Peter had with him, but still…

Peter Quill, the Legendary Star-Lord, his greatest friend in the whole d'ast universe (great, he was picking up Peter’s space slang, it was only a matter of time really), and he was just as happy to Richard as Richard was to see him.

“This is like what… the fourth team I’m in now?” He replied when Peter disentangled himself from Richard’s arms. He tried not to be too clingy, but he figured three years gave him some leeway. Jokes aside, he was honoured, and even though he wasn’t trying to sound arrogant, he did help Peter to start the Guardians up after all.

He hummed in agreement. The ship was probably safer and it would do some good to sit down, take of his helmet and relax after everything that has happened. “Sure, but what happened to the Nova Corps? And my parents, are they okay?” Richard couldn’t resisting asking as he followed Peter back to his ship. Those were the more important questions that he’d needed some sort of answer for.
